Girls Protected at Night

One of the challenges girls face in Sierra Leone is the threat of Malaria.  Thanks in part to your ongoing support, mosquito nets treated with insecticide were distributed to young ladies following a recent mentoring meeting.  The young ladies were very thankful for the mosquito nets they received.

Special thanks to Charix for Donation

We are delighted to share that Charix has made a donation of $5,100 towards Develop Africa's education project in Africa.

The funds will be used to provide tuition support, books, and school supplies for students in Sierra Leone.

We look forward to sharing photos and videos of the beneficiaries in 1-2 months.

We extend our deepest appreciation to the Charix leadership and community for their support.

No Shame. All Gain.

May 28th was Menstrual Hygiene Day which focused on promoting good menstrual health and hygiene (MHH) for all women and girls.

Girls Mentoring on Entrepreneurship

Thanks to your ongoing support, the Develop Africa Sierra Leone (DASL) team held another girls’ mentoring program on the topic of Entrepreneurship. Twenty-two young ladies between the ages of 10-20 years old in Freetown attended April’s mentoring session.

The mentoring session was a success with guest speaker, Luz G., making a virtual presentation on entrepreneurship and then having a Q & A session.  Luz identified entrepreneurs as problem solvers; she asked the girls to write down ten problems in their community that they would like to solve.

We provided school supplies to fire victims

I hate disasters. We all do.

We dislike the inconvenience, disruption, and overwhelming feeling of the loss.  The hopelessness and despair can be devastating.

On March 24th, a fire ripped through a heavily populated slum called Susan's Bay in Freetown. An estimated 5000 people were displaced. Hundreds of families lost everything!

We knew we had to do something. To meet a need not being addressed by other organizations, we decided to provide school supplies.

21 Graduate from Baptist Tailoring School

Thanks to your ongoing support 21 vocational trainees graduated recently, 2 men and 19 women with practical skills training offered in the centre include tailoring, literacy and numeracy, life skills, business skills, and others/related arts like soap making, beadwork, rug making, doll making, gara tie-dye.

Walking with Smiles

Your support helped provide children in Kamawornie with new shoes, bringing smiles to the students. You can watch some of them receiving their new shoes in this video https://youtu.be/U9IW_riKCds

Many families in Kamawornie, a remote village in northern Sierra Leone, live in extreme poverty. The new shoes were greatly appreciated by both the students and their parents.   Thank you for your generosity!
