Working to Reverse Deforestation One Tree at a Time

Thank you for your support in our ongoing efforts to reverse deforestation in Freetown, Sierra Leone. It is currently the dry season in Freetown so the next set of seedlings will not be planted until mid-May. We have targeted areas that can be seen in the photos below.

We brought Relief, Smiles and Warmed Their Hearts

We are deeply grateful for your on-going support that is enabling us to continue to bring hope to flood victims in Freetown.

Thanks to your support through this project and another GlobalGiving project, over the past 3 months we have been able to accomplish the following:

We Brought Hope and Comfort

Because of your support, we were able to respond to the immediate need of the Dumbuya family.  We provided a wide range of food items including rice, onions, salt/spices, groundnuts and other cooking items.

This was a tremendous and welcome help to them - as they were then staying temporarily with a neighbor. We also had the opportunity to provide counseling to them during their time of loss - due to passing away of the youngest daughter.

Freetown Flood & Landslide Update: The Emergency Camps are Phasing Out

The flooding and mudslide in August was a terrible tragedy in Sierra Leone. Thanks to your support, over the past months, we have provided food, water, clothing and other basic supplies to the families in need. We have also provided psychosocial counseling and educational classes. We could not have done it without your support.  Thank you so much for helping flood-affected families in Sierra Leone.

Their Stories are Heart-Rending!

The flood victims lost everything! Their stories are heart-rending:

“My mother and Father are still missing since the flood,” said a seven-year-old boy.

A woman told us “I am the only survivor. My whole family of 6 got affected. I was on my way from the mosque for prayers and saw everything that happened with my own eyes. I want to die too, as there is no reason to be alive after my husband and my five children all perished.”

Families in Sierra Leone face unprecedented challenges due to rising costs. Inflation makes it difficult for them to afford basic food staples such as rice, cooking oil, and onions.

Extending a helping hand can alleviate a significant burden and provide essential relief to the less fortunate.
