STEM training - a new dimension of opportunities for girls in Sierra Leone
In June 2022, the DASL program team facilitated a Lego project pilot; two sessions were organized (June 18th & June 25th) for ten young ladies using the 5 Legos Mindstorms sets purchased and shipped to Sierra Leone thanks in part to generous donors like you.
The Lego STEM project empowered these 10 young ladies to learn about building and programming robots. Riya, one of the presenters, did a Zoom presentation on how to build lego robots, and Rackie the other trainer also presented on Robotics and Legos; she defined robotics, listed the importance of robotics, and identified different examples of robotics.

She divided the girls into five groups (two per group) and the girls started building the Legos using the 5 Lego Mindstorms sets. At the end of the first session, Rackie asked the girls to research the importance of robotics and relate them to their respective desired career choices.
All of the girls presented their assignments at the beginning of the second session and the lead facilitator also commented on their research. The Legos building process then continued during the second session and the girls were excited to build their robots. Photo album of the second session
The Lego Mindstorms STEM held its 3 & 4th sessions, wrapping up the project for the ten young ladies that participated in the 4-week pilot program introducing them to Lego robotics and programming. This pilot was a success and was made possible in part by your donations.
