SLBC News Coverage: Aminata's Interview

Recently, the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) featured an interview with Abu C., the Director of Develop Africa Sierra Leone (DASL), during his visit to Bo. Two students supported by Develop Africa also shared their inspiring stories.

In his interview, Mr. Abu reflected on the strides made in improving educational opportunities in the Bo district. He acknowledged the critical support of stakeholders, including the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education and local councils. Mr. Abu emphasized how Develop Africa’s efforts complement the government’s Free Quality Education initiative, introduced by President Julius Maada Bio, to expand access to education for all.

"We are here in the Bo district for our annual scholarship distribution," he shared. "We’re thrilled to continue this important exercise, ensuring our beneficiaries are prepared for the new school year. This is also a time to engage with parents, discuss the students’ performance, and celebrate their successes while addressing the challenges they face."

Tewoh, a student at Methodist Girls High School in Bo, expressed heartfelt gratitude for the support she’s received from Develop Africa.

Aminata, a university student and Develop Africa beneficiary, shared her inspiring journey:
"I was born in a village where cars and electricity were unheard of. Today, I’m in my final year of university, thanks to my determination and the support of Develop Africa. When I started, I didn’t even own a computer, and paying fees was a significant challenge. Develop Africa stepped in and made it possible for me to continue my education. They are a huge part of my success story, and I’m deeply grateful."

Thank you for your unwavering commitment to girls’ education. Your generosity is creating life-changing opportunities, and empowering young women like Tewoh and Aminata to dream big and achieve more.
