Saving for Success: A Mentoring Session on Financial Literacy

Develop Africa Sierra Leone (DASL) recently organized a financial literacy mentoring session for 50 beneficiaries to equip them with essential money management skills. The session, led by Susan, a Develop Africa board member from the USA, was conducted via Zoom and focused on topics such as budgeting, saving, and financial planning.

Susan guided participants through key financial literacy concepts, including:

  • Budgeting and Income Management – Understanding how to allocate money wisely, prioritize needs over wants, and track expenses.
  • The Importance of Saving – Exploring different saving methods and the benefits of investing for future financial security.
  • Practical Financial Management – Avoiding unnecessary debt, making smart spending choices, and setting financial goals.

The session helped participants gain awareness of financial responsibility, encouraging them to develop better spending habits and consider long-term financial planning. Many beneficiaries expressed a newfound motivation to save and manage their money wisely. The interactive discussions also boosted their confidence in making informed financial decisions.

Families in Sierra Leone face unprecedented challenges due to rising costs. Inflation makes it difficult for them to afford basic food staples such as rice, cooking oil, and onions.

Extending a helping hand can alleviate a significant burden and provide essential relief to the less fortunate.
