It’s universal. A human being must do things he enjoys to be happy. I enjoy reading and make time for it every day. Today I read articles about some of the richest people on earth. Some of them find happiness in using their good fortune to help others.
Three of the billionaires I read about have one thing in common. Each has donated half of all his money to charity. Possibly more billionaires have done this, but these three are Bill Gates, Patrice Motsepe and Warren Buffet. Each of these men put his genius to work to earn his fortune. It must be a source of great joy to use that money to help others. I know I feel happy when I put my envelope in the church collection plate each Sunday. While I can’t build a school for girls in Africa like Oprah Winfrey did, I may have helped to provide a source of clean water for a village. While my donations may be relatively small, combined with the money given by others, I may have provided food for hungry children.
It certainly makes me happy to do something good for others. Holding out a helping hand to one starving or undernourished child is a source of great joy to many who don’t have to worry about putting food on the table. Seeing the sweet face of a little girl or boy and knowing you are enriching their life with a relatively small amount of money is a way to feel happy. Your sponsorship of one child will bring you great happiness. It’s amazing how helping a child who lives thousands of miles away can be such a satisfying thing to do…
