Our Kids Are Making Significant Strides With Computer Training

Here's an update on computer training at the Bitame Lucia School in Cameroon.

We have expanded our computer training program to now include the class three pupils.  Our plan is to slowly integrate them in this early stage.

Kids learning in computer lab

In the past few months, they learned how to use IT related skills including binding, photocopying, laminating and paper cutting. Many of them learned very quickly and successfully completed the practical sessions.

The training will continue during the summer holiday period when the schools close at the end of May. This will enable them to complete their course.

To date, 40 children are now computer literate. They can use a computer to write their own personal stories and experiences. They can also write a letter. At least half of the children who are in class 6 have created their own email accounts.

We are happy to let you know that we have another group of volunteers who will be running the ICT program during holidays. Over the past three months, we have learned new programs from them.

Challenges encountered: some of the computers are broken, so we had to group up 3-5 children per computer, which was a bit difficult for the teacher. The lateness and absenteeism of kids has also been a problem.

Thanks so much for your support that has helped to make all this possible.  We tremendously value your support - that enable us to provide to these kids this essential training and exposure.

Families in Sierra Leone face unprecedented challenges due to rising costs. Inflation makes it difficult for them to afford basic food staples such as rice, cooking oil, and onions.

Extending a helping hand can alleviate a significant burden and provide essential relief to the less fortunate.
