No End in sight for EBOLA Outbreak  

There is no end in sight to the Ebola outbreak in West Africa, according to the head of the World Health Organization.

"No one is talking about an early end to the outbreak," writes Margaret Chan, director-general of the World Health Organization, in today's New England Journal of Medicine. She says the outbreak is likely to last "many more months."

Chan blames the size and severity of the outbreak - which has killed 1,350 people - on poverty. At least 2,473 people have been diagnosed with the virus.  Read more...

Tired of hearing the bad news about Ebola? Here is some good news
  • We conducted an awareness campaign in the Wellington suburb of Freetown. The team shared information on preventive steps that community members could take to keep themselves safe from infection. 
     

     

  • We distributed health / cleansing items - soap to 238 adults, youths and children. 98 bottles of Dettol disinfectant to family heads / heads of households.

  • We air shipped by DHL on Tuesday August 19th a large box stuffed full with personal Protective Equipment - for Ministry of Health and Sanitation health workers in Sierra Leone. Thanks GlobalGiving donors for making this possible!

Microfinance Funds Provide a Sewing Machine and Further Skill Development               
               

In the video below, Josie, expresses his appreciation for the provision of a sewing machine (pictured). Josie is currently in year 2 of a tailoring school. 
 

With this new sewing machine Josie is able to spend more hours practicing and developing his tailoring skills. The sewing machine is already being put to great use and Josie has started developing a clientele.  The machine is helping him earn an additional income and take care of himself - so that he is not dependent on other people. Read more...
