Hello Sylvester,

We probably have seen or heard the news about the horrible effects and spread of Ebola in West Africa.  Many families have been and continue to be affected by the ripple effects of this epidemic in Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea.  The implications and ripple effects of the epidemic are being felt at multiple levels and causing untold suffering. This outbreak is an affront against Africa.

Despite the bad news, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Guinea, the rest of Africa and the world are growing in their determination to put an end to this epidemic.  There is a resolve like never before to address this epidemic and recover.  The road may be long, but Africa will win this battle.  There is a brighter future ahead for Africa!  Let's unite together and make this a reality.

We have received many calls and emails asking for an update about the situation, about the health of sponsored children and asking how you can help.  Thanks so much to each and every one of you for asking and donating.

Currently, all children, youth and adult beneficiaries,  and members of the DA family are safe.  They have thankfully not been infected by the Ebola virus. The majority of them live in areas that have not experienced the outbreak at all or have only had a couple cases.

That said, we know that many families are feeling the pinch of the resulting economic crisis. With this in mind, if you are sponsoring a child, the best way you can help is to send relief funds to the family.  A donation of any amount will be warmly welcome.  We will provide this to the family within a week of receipt.

YOU can also help to provide vitally needed personal protective clothing / equipment for medical personnel. Donated funds will also help to provide tips and information on how people can stay healthy and Ebola-free.

We are also very thankful for YOU - as without your support, we would not be able to do what we are doing.
Thanks so much for being there and all you do for deserving people around the world.

Global Giving & Develop Africa Join forces to fight Ebola
Since February, the Ebola epidemic has been responsible for over 700 deaths in West Africa. Ebola is a highly contagious disease and kills up to 90% of infected people. There is currently NO KNOWN cure.

Develop Africa has partnered with GlobalGiving and we are together raising funds to help address the urgent, current epidemic.  Monies raised through the GlobalGiving Ebola Epidemic Fund will be distributed to the partner organizations.

Funds will help to stop the spread of the Ebola virus by providing desperately needed supplies such as personal protective clothing & chlorine to health workers. Funds will also support the dissemination of information so people can take preventive action and keep themselves safe.

The United Nations World Health Organization (WHO) today advised that while travellers should be aware of Ebola, they will not contract the highly-contagious, often fatal disease unless they actually touch someone who is showing active symptoms.

"So one can travel," Gregory Hartl, WHO spokesperson on epidemic diseases said on Twitter, one of the social media sites where concerns of the spread of Ebola is generating much traffic on a day when a West African airline stopped flying to Liberia and Sierra Leone amid growing concern about the spread of the Ebola virus.

Families in Sierra Leone face unprecedented challenges due to rising costs. Inflation makes it difficult for them to afford basic food staples such as rice, cooking oil, and onions.

Extending a helping hand can alleviate a significant burden and provide essential relief to the less fortunate.

Help provide relief by donating today!
