Bed Nets Are Saving Lives! #EndMalaria
Every bed net that we are able to provide, thanks to your generous donations, is saving lives!
The bed nets we are distributing are effectively protecting families from Malaria while they sleep. We are specifically targeting communities and families in need - in particular families with young children.
Thompson Bay is one of the most deprived communities. This community was seriously affected by the Ebola crisis and also by floods in Sierra Leone. Thanks to your support, 39 mosquito bed nets were distributed to families in need in Thompson Bay. This included the families of Anna and David. Another distribution of mosquito bed nets was made to 22 families at the Leicester road community. Thanks to YOUR support, they are sleeping safely at night now.
Huffington Post recently posted an article stating the following:
"Malaria has long been one of the major killer diseases of our age and remains a huge public health problem, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa. One child dies every minute from malaria. Roughly 90 percent of malaria cases and 92 percent of malaria deaths occur in Sub-Saharan Africa, with children in the region often suffering through multiple bouts of the disease before they reach the age of five. Pregnant women who contract the disease can also suffer serious health complications. Outside of Africa, over 2.5 billion people are at risk of being infected with malaria, and there are 34 million cases every year with 46,000 deaths. However, there are reasons to be hopeful: more countries have been certified free of malaria since 2007."
This year, "World Malaria Day" falls on Tuesday, April 25. This significant day highlights the desperate need for ongoing global efforts to fight and ultimately end Malaria.
Here at Develop Africa, we afresh have determined to continue our efforts to provide bed nets to each family and to train them on proper use till malaria is no more.
It's disheartening to read about one child dying every minute from malaria. In this day and age, this should not be happening. These deaths are preventable.
We need to do our utmost to help change these statistics. Join us in this effort by helping to provide 5 nets today - through your donation of $50.00.
Thank you so much for your continued support. Together we will continue to save many more lives and change the dismal statistics.
