31 Drums of School Supplies Shipped out of TN
Thanks to countless donors, 31 drums full of school supplies left our Tennessee office on December 1st. The drums arrived at the shipping company in Maryland on the following day. They were then loaded onto a 40-foot container to travel to Africa. Once in Sierra Leone, they will be unloaded and transported to our office in Freetown.
These drums are full of school supplies that will make a difference for hundreds of students in Freetown, Kamawornie, Bo, and Makeni. Students from elementary school through high school will receive much-needed supplies including- pencils, pens, paper, notebooks, book bags, rulers, erasers, pencil sharpeners, crayons, glue, and more. The drums also include calculators, solar lights, and kindles/e readers/iPads. Teaching and classroom supplies are also included for teachers such as chalk, teaching materials, and books.
Then there is the last mile distribution cost - getting these supplies to the schools.
Each drum's delivery and distribution cost (with supplies for around 15 students) is around $220. So our estimated distribution cost is $6,820 to get these valuable school supplies into the hands of around 465 students in Freetown, Kamawornie, Bo & Makeni.
Providing these supplies is essential.
2 out of 3 school children in West Africa do not have the needed supplies to support their learning. (Develop Africa informal survey of 5 West African countries).
We need YOUR help to get these school supplies to the future leaders in Sierra Leone.
Every dollar donated will go directly to distributing these essential school supplies. Donate Here to ensure students in Sierra Leone will receive these school supplies.
