Fatu's Story - Back in School

 

Fatu was out of school because her parents could not afford to cover her school-related expenses. Her father lost his job and her mother is a housewife.  

Thank You from Sierra Leone

Over the past 2 months, Canada and the USA celebrated Thanksgiving - with loved ones and friends.  In this season, people all around the world are taking time to focus and appreciate what's important - friends and family.

Here at Develop Africa, we are thankful for the opportunity we have to touch thousands of lives ... and more especially... for YOU!   You are our friends and family!   We share a common cause and are pursuing a common goal.

Sierra Leone Has Been Declared Ebola Free

A little over a week ago, Sierra Leone was declared free of Ebola by the  World Health Organisation , prompting nationwide celebrations, tinged with sadness over the 4,000 lives that the virus claimed.  

FAWE Girls Computer Lab Update

We bring you an update from the FAWE computer lab.  FAWE Primary School class 4 and class 5 pupils are continuing to benefit from the computer training that YOU help to provide.

Class 6 pupils have taken the National Primary School Examination (NPSE) - effectively completing their classes at the school.  
The kids still participating in computer class at the lab are excited to learn.

Here a quick update to brighten your Friday and weekend.

We are so thankful for the opportunity that we have to impact and empower lives in Africa.  On August, 31st we distributed 49 durable, solar-powered radios to pregnant ladies in our Educational Lifeline Program -  at our  Creating Pathways Centre .  

Storm and Flooding in Freetown - Worst in Years

On September 16, 2015, torrential rain caused floods, landslides, and chaos in Freetown, Sierra Leone. 

The floods left thousands of the citizens of Sierra Leone stranded, with loss of property estimated to be in millions of dollars. The forecast indicates additional rain is possible.  Several lives have also been lost.

As you know the country is still trying to recover from the Ebola crisis and this has further devastated the country. Sierra Leone is still not yet at Zero Ebola.

Every child deserves to have their basic needs met, but sadly many of the children in Sierra Leone are in desperate need of food, clothes and shelter with no real hope of going to school because they are just trying to eat.

For a $1 a day you can put a smile on a child's face!

The new school year causes excitement about seeing friends and maybe a little bit of nerves with new classes and new teachers, but what it should not cause is concern about whether or not the student has a uniform to wear to school.

Please help us provide every child with a uniform and shoes!
