Ubuntu for Humanity provides solar lights for kids and youths in Bo, Sierra Leone

Over half of the school-going kids in Sierra Leone lack adequate lighting. Most rely on smoky and dangerous kerosene-based lighting for their evening studies. Lack of sufficient lighting critically undermines kids' ability to study in the evening and negatively affects their performance in the classroom.

In May 2023, Develop Africa, thanks to support from Ubuntu for Humanity, distributed lights to kids in Bo, Sierra Leone. This intervention helps to minimize the electricity challenge these kids face in their communities.

According to one of the beneficiaries, Emmanuel D., the solar light will help them study at night and also help with domestic chores during the evening hours. The solar light will also help them charge their phones to do their research and assignments online.

The benefit of providing solar lights to vulnerable children include the following:

  1. They provide a conducive environment for learning, which can help improve academic performance.
  2. They help to reduce the risk of fire accidents.
  3. They help to improve to promote equity in education and reduce the disparities between kids from low-income families and their more affluent peers.

Thank you, Ubuntu for Humanity. Your generosity has brightened their nights and ignited a flame of hope that will continue to shine for generations.

Families in Sierra Leone face unprecedented challenges due to rising costs. Inflation makes it difficult for them to afford basic food staples such as rice, cooking oil, and onions.

Extending a helping hand can alleviate a significant burden and provide essential relief to the less fortunate.
