Develop Africa Wins $20,000 at Chase Community Giving on Facebook

In July 2010, Develop Africa participated is the Chase Community Giving Challenge on Facebook and emerged successfully as one of the top 200 winners.  Develop Africa won the 27th place in terms of the total number of votes from over thousands of organizations that took place in the challenge.  As one of the top 200 grant recipients, the organization will receive $20,000 from Chase.

GlobalGiving Visits DA Projects in Sierra Leone

On May 5th, we had the unique opportunity to meet and host Britt Lake, the Program Operations Manager of GlobalGiving. Britt spent a day visiting Develop Africa's projects in Sierra Leone. A picture of Britt with a few of the scholarship beneficiaries is provided below.

We are grateful to Globalgiving for this added exposure and this is currently featured on Globalgiving's home page - www.globalgiving.org. A member of GlobalGiving's team recently (May) visited our projects in Sierra Leone.

Develop Africa Provides Scholarships to Students at Omega Training Institute, Gambia - Feb 2010

In February 2010, Develop Africa provided full scholarships to 2 students - Fana and Naomi, students at Omega Training Institute (OTI) in The Gambia.  They are both enrolled in OTI's Office Administration course. The course lasts between 9 months to 18 months or more depending upon the progress of the student through the course.
 

Books and School Supplies sent in Partnership With Nuwach Ministries to Cheshire Home

In November / December 2009, Develop Africa had the opportunity to send, in partnership with Nuwach Ministries an assortment of books and school supplies to Cheshire Home, a special needs children's home in Freetown.

The books were personally delivered by Gladys Palmer, the founder of Nuwach Ministries.  The supplies were gratefully received by Mr. Foday, the Assistant Home Administrator.

Enhance Education of Girls Through Technology at FAWE School in 2010.

"To educate girls is to reduce poverty," says Kofi Annan.

Develop Africa has been working with Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE) over the years helping to provide books, school and teaching supplies. This project's focus is on the provision of a computer lab with internet access to enhance educational opportunities.  The lab will be an enabling environment for skills development, easy access to quality information to enhance knowledge, communication and empowerment.
 

Develop Africa Partners with Common Cents and Receives Grant of $500

Develop Africa has partnered with Common Cents to provide service learning opportunities to school children. 

Through this partnership, in May this year, the Students of PS/IS/09 in Brooklyn, NY, raised and donated $500 towards classrooms in Africa.  The Philanthropy Roundtable that made the decision and selected Develop Africa to receive this donation is Guap Getters. The donation was made in support of school classrooms in Africa.
