The Digital Divide: It is estimated that up to 80% of the African population does nothave regular access to computers because of availability and affordability. The children, youth and adults in the Wellington community  (a suburb of Freetown, Sierra Leone), one of the communities where Develop Africa works, are disadvantaged and unfortunately part of this demographic.

To help address this, over the past 2 years we have been working towards launching a new computer lab.  Our plans are to set up a modern, fully equipped room with up to 42 computers.

Computer proficiency is a must in today's computer-aided / driven society. On-going access to computers and the internet will open up a world of learning, growth and self-advancement opportunities for the beneficiaries in Wellington.

 We need YOUR help to make the dream of computer access and training available to the over 1000 children, youths and adults in the community.

According to the United Nations, 31 million girls of primary school age are not enrolled in school. This is the core of what we are doing together: ensuring that the obstacles to on-going enrollment are removed one child at a time.
 

Fatmata and her mother (pictured) were facing a dire situation where her mother was not able to cover the cost of school fees and new uniforms. The situation was such that Fatmata was about to drop out of school.

Thanks to our timely intervention, Fatmata's mother was able to pay her fees the next day. The funds we provided also covered the cost of an additional uniform - to keep her neatly dressed as she goes to school.

It's been a busy season of educational excursions for the kids at the Bitame Lucia International School in Cameroon. 
 

We realize that education extends outside the classroom - so we have been providing excursions to different locations to ensure our children have a diversified and complete education experience. YOUR support has helped make this possible. 
 
As part of the Youth Week activities the kids visited a number of locations that they had never visited before. They visited the Reunification Monument and the Mefou Park.
