The objective of Develop Africa’s Microfinance and Business Development training program is to assist beneficiaries in starting or expanding a business, making them self sufficient to meet the needs of their families. The additional long term goal is for participants to expand their businesses and employ others as appropriate.

The three-day training session which took place in Freetown, Sierra Leone (21st–23rd January, 2010) comprised of teaching sessions, engaging in practical manufacturing, buying and selling exercises, steps in developing a business plan, reviewing the petty cash book etc.  More information about this program is available here.

In this video below, Rugiatu, one of Develop Africa's Microfinance beneficiaries expresses her profound gratitude to donors and God for providing funds that she has used to expand her business. Rugiatu is a single mother of three children, living in Freetown, Sierra Leone. Her business is food preparation and sales - usually rice and a soup / sauce. She was one of the pioneers of Develop Africa's Microfinance and business training program.

Families in Sierra Leone face unprecedented challenges due to rising costs. Inflation makes it difficult for them to afford basic food staples such as rice, cooking oil, and onions.

Extending a helping hand can alleviate a significant burden and provide essential relief to the less fortunate.
