Develop Africa Boosts Education in Sierra Leone

Develop Africa on Thursday 6th November 2008, provided school materials to the children and schools in Sierra Leone. The donated items included text books, note books, crayons, rulers, colored pencils, pens, markers and other important learning materials, including scholarships.

Here are excerpts from the article:

"Making the first presenting of items to the United Brethren in Christ primary school at Lumley, an assistant to the founder of the charity, Mr. John Tucker, disclosed that Develop Africa is a non-profit making organization aimed at empowering the future leaders of Africa, by supporting their education and development. He said the dishing out of scholarships also forms part of the donation, established to provide financial assistance to increase educational opportunities and access to vulnerable children and youths that need economic base to afford tuition and other educational costs. He called on the beneficiaries to make good use of the opportunity to upgrade their educational standards. "

Joane Tucker, on behalf of the coordinator donated similar items to help boost the pupils of that school. Here the pupils expressed great happiness for what they referred to as a timely windfall. Some of the pupils spoken to said the donation was unique as most of the books supplied are hard to come by even on the markets".

"Also at the UMC Primary School at Dwarzark, Miss. Tucker donated similar items and awarded the sum of Le.200,000 (Two hundred thousand Leones) each to fifteen pupils of various community schools in Freetown".

Families in Sierra Leone face unprecedented challenges due to rising costs. Inflation makes it difficult for them to afford basic food staples such as rice, cooking oil, and onions.

Extending a helping hand can alleviate a significant burden and provide essential relief to the less fortunate.

Give the Gift of Joy This Holiday Season 🎁

You can light up a child's life in Africa this holiday season. Imagine the joy of a young girl opening her very first book or a boy receiving a backpack filled with school supplies to fuel his dreams. For many children, a holiday gift isn't just a moment of happiness – it’s a message of hope, love, and possibility.

At Develop Africa, we believe every child deserves to feel special, especially during the holidays. But for too many children in underserved communities, the season comes and goes without even a small token of celebration. With your help, we can change that.

A donation of just $25 can provide a meaningful gift – a backpack, school supplies, or even a toy – to a needy child. Your generosity will show them that someone far away cares deeply about their future and happiness.

Make this holiday season unforgettable for a child. Please donate now to our Holiday Gift for a Child campaign and be part of a life-changing moment. Together, we can spread joy, ignite hope, and make the holidays magical for children in Africa.
